Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports that while the team is currently assessing the fit of new addition Dorian Finney-Smith within their system, the Lakers are not sitting idle. Burha’s sources indicate that the front office will indeed continue to explore potential trades.

The Lakers’ approach at this stage is twofold: they want to evaluate how Finney-Smith integrates into the lineup and whether he can add the defensive versatility and shooting that the team is seeking.

The forward, known for his 3-and-D capabilities, could provide the necessary balance the Lakers need to complement their superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. That said, Los Angeles’ front office isn’t expected to make any rash decisions just yet, preferring to make an informed judgment as the NBA trade deadline draws closer.

As for the Lakers’ assets, sources confirm the team is still holding onto their two tradable first-round picks (2029 and 2031), which could serve as valuable bargaining chips in the event of a major deal.

League insiders suggest that if the right opportunity arises, the Lakers could be willing to part with one or both of these picks to add another piece that theoretically could push them over the top.

Ultimately, while the Lakers are focused on immediate improvements, sources emphasize that GM Rob Pelinka and the front office will remain flexible and make decisions based on the long-term vision of contending for titles with their aging superstars.
