Steph Curry Reflects on Andre Iguodala Warriors Jersey Retirement

The NBA world will again turn its attention to the Bay Area next weekend as the Golden State Warriors retire the No. 9 jersey of four-time champion Andre Iguodala.Steph Curry, Andre Iguodala, Warriors, NBA

The ceremony, scheduled for February 23, will honor Iguodala’s legacy as one of the franchise’s most important players during their dynasty run.

Stephen Curry, who played alongside Iguodala for eight seasons, recently reflected on his former teammate’s crucial role in Golden State’s championship success.

“I speak for both of us [Draymond Green and himself] when we talk about honor. It’s going to be fantastic for the entire organization to welcome my brother back,” Curry said, via RG.org’s Grant Afseth. “He helped us win a lot of championships.”

Iguodala’s impact extended beyond the stat sheet. He was named NBA Finals MVP in 2015 after his lockdown defense on LeBron James helped secure the Warriors’ first title of their dynasty. In 452 regular-season games with Golden State, he averaged 6.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists — but his influence went far beyond the numbers.

“His IQ, his impact on the game,” Curry added. “We obviously don’t win those without him.”

The jersey retirement comes on the same day Golden State hosts Dallas. That means another Warriors legend, Klay Thompson, will be in attendance — this time as a member of the Mavericks.

Curry, meanwhile, returned to Oakland Arena (formerly Oracle Arena) for NBA All-Star Weekend festivities and hinted at a potential return for a Warriors game.

“I absolutely love the idea of coming back to play a game here,” Curry said. “It should be a regular-season game.”

For now, though, all eyes are on Iguodala, as the Warriors prepare to immortalize another key figure from their historic dominance of the late 2010s.
