Timberwolves
Anthony Edwards has been fined again by the league, this time for making obscene gestures toward an official. This marks the fifth fine the Timberwolves star has received this season, and he’s tied for the league lead with nine technical fouls.
Coach Chris Finch spoke on the matter, confirming that the issue has been addressed both organizationally and individually.
“It’s been addressed for sure,” Finch said, via Chris Hine of the Star Tribune. “He’s aware. We’re all aware.”
Finch also expressed confidence in Edwards’ ability to regain control over his emotions, despite his recent frustrations.
“He’s extremely self-aware. I think he has emotional control for sure,” Finch added. “I think he’s frustrated on many levels. I think some of that frustration is certainly in and around the whistle, no doubt, but he’s just got to figure it out, play through it, and he’ll be fine.”
- The parties involved in the Timberwolves’ ownership dispute met for a final time on Jan. 10, per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. Arbitration hearings took place in early November, with a ruling expected within the next 30 days. The dispute between minority owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez and principal owner Glen Taylor moved to arbitration in July after months of negotiations. The outcome of the arbitration could have significant implications for the future direction of the franchise, including potential changes in ownership structure and management.
Thunder
Alex Caruso is now off the injury report, signaling that he will suit up for the Thunder’s Tuesday game against Philadelphia.
Caruso, who signed a four-year extension last month, has missed the past 10 games due to a left hip strain. His return should give Oklahoma City a boost defensively as they continue to push toward serious title contention.
Nuggets
Vlatko Cancar has made progress in his recovery from arthroscopic knee surgery. After undergoing the procedure on December 4, Cancar traveled with the Nuggets to Dallas over the weekend and participated in a full pre-game workout.
The team had initially anticipated an eight-week recovery period, so Cancar’s progress suggests he could return to action sooner than expected. The forward/center is currently on a one-year, $2.1 million veteran’s minimum deal and could provide valuable depth once fully healthy.
