The Brooklyn Nets have officially signed NBA free agent forward Tosan Evbuomwan to a two-way contract, per a release from the team. As expected, the move comes with a corresponding roster change as Jaylen Martin has been waived to open up the two-way slot for Evbuomwan.
Evbuomwan, a 23-year-old forward from the United Kingdom, went undrafted in 2023 after a standout career at Princeton. He initially inked an Exhibit 10 deal with Detroit, but was waived before the start of the 2023/24 season.
After spending time in the NBA G League with the Motor City Cruise, Evbuomwan got a shot with Memphis, signing a 10-day hardship contract at the end of January 2024. He later rejoined Detroit on a two-way deal that spanned two seasons, averaging 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds in 17 NBA games, including eight starts.
While his stint in the NBA showed flashes, Evbuomwan’s real breakout came in the G League, where he averaged 15.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 34 games with the Cruise, shooting an efficient 55.4% from the field.
His performance in the NBAGL caught the attention of several teams, and after a brief stint with the Clippers, where he posted 19.0 points and 6.8 rebounds in 18 games with the San Diego Clippers, he earned his opportunity with the Nets.
For Brooklyn, this signing adds depth and versatility to the frontcourt. Standing at 6’8″, Evbuomwan has the ability to play both forward spots and can contribute as a playmaker, something the Nets will appreciate given their current roster needs.
However, with this addition, the Nets now face a roster decision. Brooklyn’s three two-way spots were previously occupied by Jaylen Martin, Tyrese Martin, and Reece Beekman. While it would’ve been a surprise to see Tyrese Martin cut, given his recent regular role with the team, Beekman, who was acquired in a trade with Golden State, was also at low risk. That left Jaylen Martin as the candidate to be waived, clearing the path for Evbuomwan to slot in.
The Nets continue to reshape their roster with an eye toward bolstering their depth, and Evbuomwan’s two-way contract represents another move to strengthen their future plans.
