The Golden State Warriors are poised to sign forward Kevin Knox to a 10-day contract, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic. The agreement is expected to be finalized next week, following the conclusion of the NBA All-Star break.
Knox, selected ninth overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, brings six years of professional experience to the Warriors.
Though he was waived by Golden State in October, Knox most recently played for the Detroit Pistons, appearing in 31 games last season and averaging 7.2 points, 18.1 minutes, and a shooting line of .462/.330/.909.
This season, Knox has played with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G League, where he has averaged 21.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 32.6 minutes across 28 games, posting a shooting line of .495/.389/.759.
The Warriors currently have three open spots on their roster and must fill two of them by February 20 to meet the league’s minimum roster requirement of 14 players under standard contracts.
While Golden State has approximately $1.37 million in available cap space, they will proceed cautiously with their remaining flexibility, as the team is under a hard cap.
Knox’s 10-day contract will carry a cap hit of $119,972, per Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. If the Warriors opt to sign two additional players to similar deals next Thursday, the team could carry just 12 players on the roster for a further 14 days, provided the new contracts are not extended beyond the 10-day period.
Knox has also spent time with the New York Knicks, the team that drafted him, and Portland Trail Blazers.
