Cavaliers
Cavs guard Donovan Mitchell was born in New York, but he’s thinking globally when it comes to All-Star Weekend.
In a video diary for Andscape, Mitchell said he’d like to represent the World team if he earns a spot, citing his Panamanian roots on his mother’s side.
“I do think I should be on the World team,” Mitchell said. “People don’t really look at me as a Panamanian basketball player, but I do.”
Mitchell added it wouldn’t be a disappointment if it doesn’t happen, but said it would be meaningful to show love to Panama and his family’s background.
Meanwhile, the Cavs looked more like the team we expected in Wednesday’s road win over the 76ers. We have the latest batch of Dribbles right here.
Mavericks
The Mavericks have agreed to a 10-day contract with forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, per Christian Clark of The Athletic.
Dallas was granted a hardship exception and won’t need to waive a player to add Robinson-Earl, with Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively II, and Dante Exum all sidelined.
Robinson-Earl, 25, has appeared in 214 NBA games and was with Dallas during the preseason. He’s coming off a strong G League run with the Texas Legends, averaging 19.3 points and 11.7 rebounds while shooting efficiently. The move nudges Dallas slightly closer to its second-apron hard cap.
Bulls
The Bulls may finally be open for business. Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports there’s a growing belief around the league that executive VP Arturas Karnisovas is more transparent and realistic in trade talks than in past years.
With the Bulls hovering below .500 and several expiring contracts on the roster, rival executives sense Chicago is willing to listen. Cowley adds that pressure from ownership is mounting after years of passive decisions, making this a deadline worth watching.
