Heat
Tyler Herro is moving in the right direction, but he’s not out of the woods yet.
Herro is traveling with the Heat on their three-game road trip that opens Thursday in Brooklyn and is hopeful to return at some point. The issue is swelling. A lot of it.
Herro has missed three of the past four games with a right big toe contusion and admitted he may have set himself back by practicing during the team’s five-day break.
“I probably shouldn’t have practiced,” Herro said, via Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. “That kind of sparked things back up.”
Herro said the focus now is controlling the swelling and inflammation before making any decisions on a return.
Meanwhile, Nikola Jovic considers himself week-to-week after taking a hard fall Monday that resulted in a right elbow contusion and a deep cut requiring stitches. Jovic said he feared he had broken his arm but was relieved imaging showed no fracture.
“It didn’t look good,” Jovic said. “But it’s not broken, so that’s the most important thing.”
Hawks
Trae Young appears to be closing in on a return.
The Hawks assigned Young to the G League on Tuesday so he could practice with College Park, then recalled him Wednesday to work with the NBA club. Young has been sidelined since October 29 with a sprained MCL.
Magic
The Wagner brothers will stay home.
Franz Wagner, dealing with a left high ankle sprain, and Moritz Wagner, who is rehabbing an ACL injury, are not traveling with the Magic on their four-game Western Conference trip that begins Thursday in Denver, via Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel.
Jalen Suggs will travel, though coach Jamahl Mosley said the guard was limited in Wednesday’s practice as he continues to work through a left hip contusion.
