Jazz

Veteran forward Georges Niang remains weeks away from making his season debut, the Jazz announced in a team release.

Niang continues to progress through rehab from a stress reaction in the fourth metatarsal of his left foot but will be sidelined at least two more weeks before being reexamined.

It has been more than 11 weeks since Utah first disclosed the injury, which occurred during offseason training. While the team has consistently cited progress, Niang has yet to return to basketball activities and remains without a firm timeline.

Niang, 32, is on an expiring contract worth $8.2 million for the 2025-26 season. He was traded from Atlanta to Boston in July before being flipped to Utah in August. Last season, split between Cleveland and Atlanta, he averaged 9.9 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting better than 40 percent from three.

Hawks

The Hawks have waived forward Jacob Toppin, according to the league’s transaction log, a move first noted by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Toppin was on a two-way contract.

The decision follows season-ending right shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum suffered in a G League game with College Park. Two-way contracts are non-guaranteed until January 10.

Atlanta now has an open two-way slot in addition to a standard roster vacancy, notes Brad Rowland of Locked On Hawks. Toppin appeared in five games for the Hawks this season, while remaining productive in the G League.

Grizzlies

Grizzlies wing John Konchar underwent successful surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, the team announced. The injury occurred Dec. 7 against Portland.

Konchar is expected to make a full recovery and will be re-evaluated in approximately three weeks.

The 29-year-old has played a limited role this season but remains a reliable contributor off the bench. Memphis has again been hit hard by injuries, with several rotation players still sidelined.
