Mavericks

Anthony Davis might finally be inching back. The Mavericks upgraded the All-Star big man to doubtful for Monday’s game in Miami, per Mike Curtis of the Dallas Morning News.

Davis traveled with the team and Monday marks day seven of the original seven-to-10-day reevaluation window for his left calf strain. He has missed 13 straight games.

His name, of course, has been everywhere since Dallas moved on from GM Nico Harrison. Many around the league view the shakeup as the start of a build centered on Cooper Flagg.

Mark Cuban insists Davis isn’t being shopped, but rival teams continue to monitor two things: his health and whether he can help Dallas string together some wins.

Dallas still has more bodies down. Dereck Lively II is out for right knee injury management, and Brandon Williams (back tightness) and Ryan Nembhard (knee sprain) are questionable.

76ers

Philadelphia is still waiting on Joel Embiid. The MVP big man missed his seventh straight game Sunday while dealing with soreness in his right knee, though head coach Nick Nurse believes the end of the wait is close.

“He wants to play,” Nurse said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey. “He’s being very diligent. He’s doing a lot to get back on the floor. I think it will be soon.”

The Sixers continue to tread water while Embiid works through what the team has called a long but steady process.

NBA Media

Zach Lowe has a new home on game nights. The veteran NBA insider has joined Amazon Prime Video’s coverage, per The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch.

Lowe will make periodic appearances on Amazon’s studio show throughout the season, adding another high-profile voice to the streamer’s expanding NBA presence.
