Timberwolves
The script flipped in Minneapolis.
After being handled twice by Cleveland last season, the Timberwolves returned the favor Thursday night, putting together one of their most complete offensive performances of the season in a 131-122 win at Target Center.
Minnesota shot 57 percent from the field, knocked down 20 three-pointers, and had all five starters score in double figures. Four finished with at least 22 points. Ball movement was the story, as 33 of the Wolves’ 51 made baskets were assisted.
Julius Randle led the way with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists, while Anthony Edwards added 25 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. Jaden McDaniels scored 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting, and Donte DiVincenzo chipped in 22.
The game turned in the third quarter, when Minnesota erupted for 43 points on 70 percent shooting, including seven of nine from deep. That burst turned a four-point halftime deficit into a 17-point lead.
Cleveland made a push late behind a flurry of threes from Sam Merrill, but the Wolves closed it out with crisp ball movement and timely buckets.
Minnesota has now won four straight.
Pacers
The drought is over. So is the wait.
Pascal Siakam delivered 30 points and 14 rebounds, capping the night with a driving layup with 11.5 seconds left to lift the Pacers past Charlotte, 114-112. The win snapped Indiana’s 13-game losing streak and gave coach Rick Carlisle his 1,000th career victory.
T.J. McConnell added 23 points and eight assists, while Aaron Nesmith scored 16. After Siakam’s go-ahead basket, McConnell sealed it by stealing the ensuing inbounds pass.
Jazz
Lauri Markkanen scored 33 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Utah Jazz snapped a five-game skid with a 116-114 win over Dallas.
Utah overcame a late seven-point deficit, closing on a 12-0 run fueled by three straight baskets from Markkanen. The Jazz scored on seven of their final nine possessions, capitalizing on 21 Mavericks turnovers and a 64-46 edge in the paint.
Keyonte George had 19 points and seven assists, while Kevin Love added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Cooper Flagg led Dallas with 29 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.
