The NBA league offices have laid off dozens of employees as it “reallocates” resources, per Tom Friend of Sports Business Journal.
“We are reallocating resources to our priority business areas, including digital and international growth, and that has resulted in the elimination of a number of positions at the league office,’’ spokesman Mike Bass told Friend via text.
NBA Chief Communications Officer Mike Wade, a 17-year employee of the league office, was among those laid off.
No further cuts are expected as the layoffs were from departments not focused on generating revenue, per Friend.
Hate to hear this, and echo everything Mannix says here about Mike Wade. Total pro, great person, always a pleasure to work with. (And absolutely baffling that the NBA is cutting jobs just ahead of a mammoth new broadcast-rights deal.) https://t.co/dng2lrBNuX
