NBA officials have discussed the possibility of a two-day draft in a meeting with team general managers and top basketball executives, switching the event from its current one-day format, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
This is something that has been on the minds of GMs for quite some time, sources told Hoops Wire. Now, they apparently have brought the idea to the league office.
Per Charania, the draft would remain two rounds, but with the first round held on the first day and the second round on the next.
“The concept has been increasingly discussed in recent meetings as team executives believe they could better utilize more time for both first and second rounds,” Charania wrote.
If the concept of a two-day draft is agreed on, it could go into effect as soon as June, when the next draft will be held, Charania added.
