NBA Players Vote Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton As Most Overrated Player In League

NBA players have voted Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton as the most overrated player in the league.

33 players received at least one vote in The Athletic‘s poll. Haliburton received 14.4 percent of the vote.

“This year, Tyrese Haliburton, the Indiana Pacers’ star point guard, received 14.4 percent of the vote after he garnered 3.7 percent last year. Haliburton led the Pacers last season to the East finals, averaged 8.2 assists per game during those playoffs while making 49 percent of his shot attempts and 38 percent of his 3-point tries. Perhaps our respondents think Haliburton got too much credit for that playoff run after Indiana’s first-round opponent last year was missing Giannis Antetokounmpo because of an injury and after Indiana’s second-round opponent, New York, dealt with a bunch of injuries.”

Haliburton appeared in 73 games for the Pacers this season. He averaged 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 9.2 assists while shooting 47.3% from the field, 38.8% from beyond the arc and 85.1% from the free-throw line.

The Pacers won 50 games in the regular season. They are the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Indiana signed Haliburton to a five-year, $244 million extension in 2023. Haliburton has made two All-Star teams and one All-NBA team.

The Pacers acquired Haliburton from the Sacramento Kings in the Domantas Sabonis trade. Haliburton is averaging 19.5 points and 10.1 assists with Indiana.

The 25-year-old Haliburton has career averages of 17.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 8.8 assists with the Kings and Pacers. He won the gold medal last summer with Team USA at the Paris Olympics.

The Pacers are up 1-0 against the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of this year’s playoffs. Haliburton and Co. beat Milwaukee in the first round of the 2024 playoffs in six games.

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert was voted the second-most overrated player in the NBA.

“I don’t (understand) the Defensive Player of the Year stuff when you don’t guard the people who have the ball most of the time, the ones who are making most of the decisions,” a player who chose Gobert for most overrated said. “I just don’t see it, nor does he strike any fear in me in my heart as a defender.”
