Dylan Windler, Who Recorded 33 Rebounds In G League Game, Headed To Australia

NBA free agent small forward Dylan Windler is signing with the Perth Wildcats of the Australian National Basketball League, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.Dylan Windler, Lakers, NBA

Windler, 27, is 6-foot-6 and played for three teams last season — the Knicks, Hawks and Lakers, appearing in 17 games. He also spent time in the NBA G League.

A former first-round pick of the Cavaliers (No. 26 overall), Windler carries career averages of 3.2 points and 2.1 rebounds, shooting 42.5 percent from the field and 34.7 percent on 3-pointers.

His best work has come in the G League, as evidenced by his a 23-point, 33-rebound game as a member of the Westchester Knicks in early January. The 33 rebounds are a G League single-game record.

Windler appeared in just 86 games over his first four seasons, with injuries being the name of the game for him with the Cavs. Interestingly, he was known as a bit of an ironman as an amateur, missing just one game between high school and four years of college at Belmont.

After missing all of his rookie year, Windler bounced back to average a career-high 5.2 points in his second season, showing flashes of promise. But he had trouble staying on the floor in Cleveland and really hasn’t been given much of an opportunity since.

Windler signed a two-way contract with the Hawks in early March before entering free agency.

“The Indianapolis, Indiana, native played collegiately at Belmont from 2015-19, appearing in 128 games, averaging 13.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steal in 29.4 minutes (.541 FG%, .406 3FG%, .761 FT%),” wrote Jackson Caudell of SI.com. “As a senior, the 2018-19 OVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year led the Bruins to their first NCAA Tournament victory and first at-large bid in program history.”
