According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Memphis Grizzlies are not pursuing Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant after the draft haul they got from the Orlando Magic for Desmond Bane.
The Grizzlies traded Bane to the Magic for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks and one first-round pick swap on Sunday.
“I wouldn’t, however, expect the Grizzlies to suddenly thrust themselves into the Durant sweepstakes. The Stein Line, as of Friday evening, was directly told that Memphis wasn’t pursuing Durant,” Fischer wrote.
Durant wants the Suns to trade him to the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets or San Antonio Spurs. The NBA legend, though, doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.
KD has one year left on his deal.
Durant turns 37 in September. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.
A top 75 player of all time, Durant has one year left on his contract. He has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns.
Durant won the 2014 MVP Award with the Thunder and back-to-back rings and Finals MVPs with the Warriors in 2017 and 2018.
KD is also a four-time scoring champion and the eighth leading scorer in NBA history.
The Grizzlies have won only one postseason series since drafting Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant. Both All-Stars are not expected to be traded this offseason.
