Kings Acquire Jonas Valanciunas In Trade With Wizards

The Sacramento Kings have acquired center Jonas Valanciunas in a deal with the Washington Wizards ahead of the NBA trade deadline, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.<a rel=Jonas Valanciunas, Wizards, NBA” width=”300″ height=”167″>

In exchange, the Wizards will receive Sidy Cissoko and two second-round draft picks, added Shams Charania of ESPN.

Washington reportedly had been seeking a new home for Valanciunas, who was also drawing interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and others.

Instead, the Kings got the deal done, reshaping the roster after trading De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs and landing Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls earlier this week.

“Sacramento’s second trade in a matter of days also puts Lithuanian national team teammates Jonas Valanciunas and Domantas Sabonis together on the Kings’ front line,” Stein wrote.

Valanciunas is averaging 11.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.6 blocks for the Wizards this season while shooting 56.4% from the field, 28.0% from beyond the arc and 89.5% from the free-throw line. He’s making $9.9 million.

This also marks the second trade for the Wizards in the past 24 hours, as they sent Kyle Kuzma to the Milwaukee Bucks in a deal for veteran forward Khris Middleton. By all accounts, the Wizards intend to hang on to Middleton for now.

At 8-41, the Wizards sport the league’s worst record and are well on their way to the NBA Draft lottery and Copper Flagg sweepstakes.

Meanwhile, the Kings (25-24) enter Wednesday night in eighth place in the Western Conference. Despite the loss of Fox, their recent moves show they fully intend to be at their best when the postseason rolls around.
