The Phoenix Suns have agreed to a one-year deal with free agent guard Jared Butler, per a report from Shams Charania of ESPN. NBA agents Mark Bartelstein and Kieran Piller of Priority Sports confirmed the signing.
Butler, 24, hit the market when the Philadelphia 76ers declined his $2.35 million team option for the upcoming season.
He finished last year in Philly after arriving via trade from the Washington Wizards and made the most of his opportunity, averaging 11.5 points and 4.9 assists in 28 games, including 17 starts. He shot 42.6% from the field, 35.2% from three and 87% from the line.
Originally the 40th pick in the 2021 draft, Butler began his career with the Utah Jazz and has since had stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Wizards. The Sixers converted his two-way deal to a standard contract after acquiring him in February.
Phoenix has also claimed guard Jordan Goodwin off waivers from the Los Angeles Lakers, continuing a quiet but targeted backcourt reshuffle.
Once both Butler and Goodwin are officially on board, the Suns will be at the 18-man limit — 15 standard contracts and three two-ways — heading into training camp.
