The NBA is allowing scouts to attend a high school basketball event in Las Vegas during the In-Season Tournament at the end of the week, per Jonathan Givoney of ESPN.
This is a change in policy for the league, which generally forbids scouts from attending high school games or events.
But as Givoney relays, the NBA allows scouts to attend five Nike EYBL Scholastic Showcase games, all being held in Vegas, as part of the league’s partnership with Nike.
Among those games is a matchup between Montverde Academy and Link Academy. Montverde features Cooper Flagg, a Duke commit expected to be near the top — or at the top — of everyone’s draft board in 2025.
Along with that, the NBA is allowing scouts to attend several other high-profile events involving high school teams during the season.
So yes, this is a far cry from the days of late commissioner David Stern, who led efforts to keep NBA scouts away from high school games.
