File this under interesting, if nothing else.
According to Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, a hypothetical deal has Zion Williamson heading from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Brooklyn Nets.
The price? Michael Porter Jr., Ben Saraf and a 2027 first-round pick.
Not nothing. Not exactly a king’s ransom, either.
Williamson is due $42.2 million next season, with that money becoming fully guaranteed on July 15. No no-trade clause. So technically, sure, it’s doable.
On the court, the production still pops. Williamson is averaging 21.3 points on 60.4 percent shooting. Career-wise, he’s at 23.9 a night. When he plays, he’s a force.
That’s the catch — when he plays.
Brooklyn is starving for a face of the franchise. Zion would bring juice, buzz, highlights. All of it. Barclays Center would feel different overnight.
Meanwhile, New Orleans might be thinking bigger picture. Build around Trey Murphy III and Derik Queen. Add a more durable scorer in Porter. Reset the timeline a bit.
Would the Pelicans actually do it? That’s where this gets real.
After all, talent has never been the question with Zion. Availability still is.
