Team USA had a lot to prove in the 2008 Summer Olympics, and prove it the Americans did by winning the gold.
This, of course, took place one Olympics after the biggest disappointment in American basketball history. That would have been 2004, when Team USA lost a record three games and finished with the bronze. Yikes.
Anyway, there’s a reason the 2008 squad is forever-known as The Redeem Team. And now, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are serving as executive producers to release a documentary on that team, which will air on Netflix. The show premieres Oct. 7.
Those games took place in Beijing, China, with the USA going 5-0 on its way to the gold. Along with James and Wade, the roster featured the likes of Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony, and was coached by Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski.
Wade led the team in scoring at 16.0 points, with 11 All-Stars on the roster overall.
Netflix’s special actually will be the second documentary on the team, following ESPN’s Road to Redemption, which followed Team USA’s preparations for those 2008 Olympics.
