The Brooklyn Nets, already navigating a season with ups and downs, are bracing for a tough stretch without their top scorer. Cam Thomas, who’s been lighting up the scoreboard, has been diagnosed with a left hamstring strain, as relayed by Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
Following an MRI on Tuesday, the team announced he’ll be re-evaluated in three weeks. It’s a significant blow to a team leaning heavily on Thomas’ scoring punch.
Adding to the Nets’ injury woes, Nic Claxton is out for Wednesday’s game against the Suns, sitting due to lower back injury management. The good news? Claxton is listed as day-to-day, so his absence might not linger.
Meanwhile, Noah Clowney is dealing with a left ankle sprain, an injury sustained in Sunday’s win over Sacramento. Clowney, seen in a walking boot and on crutches, will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
But it’s not all bad news in Brooklyn. Backup center Day’Ron Sharpe has returned to full on-court activity and could rejoin the lineup within the next week. His presence should provide a much-needed boost to a thin frontcourt. As for Jaylen Martin, he’s battling a right knee bone contusion and will be re-evaluated in one to two weeks.
Cam Johnson, who had been on the injury report, cleared himself to play against his former Suns team. That’s a welcome development for a Nets squad that needs all the firepower it can muster during this challenging stretch.
Injuries are a part of the NBA grind, but for Brooklyn, it’s becoming a true test of depth and resilience.
