The Nets just keep sliding, and at this point, it may not be the worst thing.

Brooklyn dropped its 10th straight game Friday, falling to the Lakers despite what appeared to be a competitive effort.

A loss is a loss, though. And lately, that’s been the theme.

The Nets are now firmly in the mix near the top of the lottery standings — or bottom, depending on how you look at it. Either way, they’re inching closer to prime draft positioning with each result.

This year, hey, that’s important.

This year’s NBA Draft is viewed as one of the deepest classes in recent memory. That makes every loss a little more meaningful for teams headed in this direction.

Brooklyn hasn’t exactly waved the white flag. The effort has been there most nights. The results just haven’t followed.

Ten straight losses tends to tell the story. So while the short-term outlook isn’t pretty, the long-term picture may be starting to take shape.

In today’s NBA, that’s sometimes the trade-off. And for the Nets, it’s becoming more real by the day.
