The Nets are hiring former Magic and Hornets coach Steve Clifford as a coaching consultant, per Malika Andrews of ESPN.
Clifford, 59, will be with the Nets “periodically” throughout the season, Andrews reported.
He led the Magic to the Southeast Division title in his first season with the organization in 2018-19. The Magic also made the playoffs in 2020 before entering full rebuild mode late last season.
Overall, he compiled a 96-131 mark in Orlando. He also coached Charlotte five seasons prior to coming to the Magic, guiding the Hornets to a 196-214 record.
As Andrews noted, Clifford was an assistant coach with the Lakers in 2012-13, when current Nets coach Steve Nash was a point guard with the team.
Brooklyn lost assistant coach Mike D’Antoni after the season. D’Antoni stepped down and has since been named a coaching advisor with the Pelicans.
