The expectation around the NBA is that Michael Porter Jr. won’t be finishing the season in Brooklyn.
According to John Hollinger of The Athletic, the Nets are widely expected to move Porter by the 2026 trade deadline, with one league source characterizing him as “a lock” to be dealt as the franchise looks to capitalize on a career year.
NBA sources have also indicated that both the Warriors and Bucks have shown strong interest in the 27-year-old forward.
Porter has been one of the few bright spots in a difficult season for Brooklyn, averaging 25.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists while shooting efficiently across the board. He is earning $38.3 million this season and is under contract for one more year at $40.8 million, a structure that makes him especially appealing to contenders seeking high-end scoring without a long-term commitment.
The Nets, meanwhile, sit at 11-24 (entering Saturday) and well outside the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. Selling high on Porter fits the broader reset underway in Brooklyn, where flexibility and asset accumulation remain priorities.
Porter does not have a no-trade clause, and after helping the Nuggets win the 2023 championship, many around the league view him as better suited for a team with postseason aspirations.
