The Nets and Raptors are discussing a large trade that would involve Raptors forward Pascal Siakam and Nets guard/forward Ben Simmons, per separate reports from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype and Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Along with reporting the Nets’ interest in Siakam, Stein wrote that the Nets and Raptors have discussed a deal that would swap incoming Brooklyn guard Spencer Dinwiddie for Toronto guard Fred VanVleet. Dinwiddie was acquired as part of the Kyrie Irving trade with the Mavericks, finalized on Monday.
The Raptors also covet Nets center Nic Claxton, who has been part of the trade discussions, Scotto wrote.
Along with all of that, the Nets have an interest in Raptors forward OG Anunoby, something first suggested by Brian Windhorst of ESPN, and as we relayed here.
“At last year’s trade deadline, the Raptors offered a first-round pick in an attempt to acquire Claxton and have since kept an eye on the rising center,” Scotto wrote. “Nets forward Ben Simmons and several first-round draft picks have also been discussed in trade conversations with the Raptors, league sources told HoopsHype.”
While talks appear fluid, and perhaps changing by the minute, they do offer some insight into what many predicted — that the Nets aren’t finished building their team around resident star Kevin Durant after trading Irving.
Along with aforementioned, the Nets may also be willing to move forward Dorian Finney-Smith and the 2029 first-round pick acquired from the Mavs, sources told Hoops Wire.
The Raptors, too, have been busy, with their talks involving the Nets serving as just one example.
“I still don’t know what the Raptors are going to do,” Windhorst said on The Hoop Collective podcast, via RealGM. “If the Nets could flip some of this stuff that they got and pry OG Anunoby out of there, you may have something there with the Nets, but I don’t know if they’re going to be able to.”
Updating tonight's NBA blockbuster trade coverage: As the Nets pursue additional deals before Thursday's 3 PM ET trade buzzer, league sources say they have not ruled out potentially moving Spencer Dinwiddie elsewhere.
