With changes to the roster, particularly in the areas of perimeter shooting, the Nets need to find ways to score from the outside.
That seemed to be the opinion of coach Jacque Vaughn, via Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
“No (Patty Mills), no (Seth Curry), no (Yuta Watanabe), no (Joe Harris) — specialists that we had to shoot the trey ball,” Vaughn said in listing the names of the dearly departed. “So we’ll have to incorporate different ways to score.”
“[We have to be] a more detailed team. We have to be greedy with our spacing, and we have to be extremely detailed and poised in giving guys the ability to drive the basketball. So, you might have to be a foot to the right, where you were able to be a foot to the left previously. So, detailed in our organization on the offensive end on the floor.”
Vaughn and the the Nets are hopeful a healthy Ben Simmons (yes, he’s still around) can help create open looks for the likes of Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Spencer Dinwiddie and the rest.
And you know what? If Simmons does return to form, or something close to it, the Nets could really have something here.
But that’s a pretty big if these days, and we may not know the answer on Simmons or how the Nets address their other needs until well into the season.
