The Nets have signed guard Malachi Smith to a two-year contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Smith’s second 10-day deal expired Friday, but the new agreement will keep him in Brooklyn for the remainder of the season and cover 2026-27. The deal is not expected to include guaranteed money for next season.
Smith, 26, has been a regular contributor off the bench since joining the Nets in March. In his first 10 NBA games, he’s averaging 7.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 18.2 minutes per contest, while shooting .527 from the field and .545 from three-point range.
A former Gonzaga product, Smith spent most of the season with the Long Island Nets after going undrafted in 2023. He has also had stints with the Rip City Remix, Wisconsin Herd and Memphis Hustle in the G League.
“The mentality is leave it all on the floor,” Smith said after Friday’s game. “I’m not going to take any minute for granted.”
Brooklyn will be able to finalize the deal without waiving a player, as one roster spot is currently occupied by a hardship 10-day contract.
