The Brooklyn Nets have waived guard Tyson Etienne one day after signing him, the team announced, via the RealGM transactions log.
Etienne is 6-foot-2 and is now likely headed for the Long Island Nets of the G League. He was acquired in a trade with the College Park Skyhawks, the affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks.
Etienne is the nephew of former NBA center Marcus Camby and a cousin of Denver Nuggets center DeAndre Jordan.
Etienne played for the Skyhawks from 2022-24, appearing in a total of 51 games and averaging 7.6 points, 3.5 assists and 2.6 rebounds, shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 35.6 percent on 3-pointers. He averaged 11.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.0 assists last season.
The Nets have several roster spots available, so that likely means they have a few more signings looming. Training camp is set to tip off the first week of October.
So far, 17 players are under contract in Brooklyn, with Killian Hayes, KJ Jones and Mark Armstrong on Exhibit 10 training camp deals.
“Etienne, 24, came into the NBA after spending three seasons at Wichita State University, a tenure in which he not only earned two nods for the All-AAC teams, but was also co-Player of the Year in the AAC during the 2020-21 season,” wrote Sharif Phillips-Keaton of Nets Wire.
Brooklyn failed to make the playoffs last season, or even the play-in tournament. But the Nets are stacked with loads of first-rounders, as we relayed here.
