Nike and Nets star Kyrie Irving have parted ways — for good.
Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, Irving is now a “sneaker free agent” as his relationship with Nike has officially concluded.
The shoe giant initially had suspended Irving last month after he tweeted out a link to antisemitic material available on Amazon. He was initially suspended for eight games by the Nets.
It remains to be seen if others will have an interest in Irving. His brand was undoubtedly one of the most popular with Nike, and as time passes, he may be able to make a lot of money for someone else.
But signing him to a shoe contract would likely also come at a price, given the backlash over his sharing of a tweet.
Kyrie Irving is no longer a Nike athlete, Nike spokesperson says. The sides have parted ways one month after Nike suspended its relationship with the Nets star. Irving has one of most popular signatures shoes in the NBA and is now a sneaker free agent.
