Clippers star Kawhi Leonard was ruled out of Game 4 vs. the Mavericks on Sunday and head of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said he doesn’t know when Leonard will be back.
Leonard had indicated prior to Game 4 in Dallas that he was hoping to play. Leonard is dealing with issues and inflammation in his surgically repaired right knee.
“He’s just still dealing with the inflammation and the swelling,” coach Tyronn Lue said, via Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. “So we’re monitoring it. Got treatment last night. Got treatment this morning. Continue to get treatment tonight.”
Lue added that the Clippers are “just doing right by him,” when making a joint decision to hold out Leonard with Leonard and the medical staff.
Leonard indeed did not look the same in Friday’s Game 3 road loss to the Mavs.
“When you watch him play, it was very obvious that is not Kawhi Leonard,’ Frank said.
Leonard missed the final eight regular season games and Game 1 of this opening-round series.
Asked Lawrence Frank if Kawhi Leonard can return this series if he shows he can move like normal again, Frank said there’s no timetable. He said Leonard has to show he can move without restrictions to have a shot to play.
