The Nuggets will again be without superstar Nikola Jokic as they face the Grizzlies, marking his third straight absence due to personal reasons, as relayed by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Obviously, this leaves the Nuggets (7-5) in a precarious spot, especially given Jokic’s MVP-caliber numbers this season: 29.7 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 11.7 assists per game. Losing that kind of production is a challenge for any team, but it’s especially difficult when you’re talking about your centerpiece and an NBA MVP candidate.
Jokic’s brilliance isn’t just in his box score; it’s the way he orchestrates everything for Denver. The offense flows through him, and his passing creates opportunities for everyone around him. Without him, Denver has leaned more heavily on Jamal Murray (when healthy), Michael Porter Jr., and others to pick up the slack. Aaron Gordon has also missed time and remains out with a calf injury. There’s no timetable for his return.
The Grizzlies, meanwhile, are also trying to find their footing, coming into this matchup under .500 and still without Ja Morant. While they’re dealing with their own challenges, you know Memphis will be ready to take advantage of Jokic’s absence.
Denver has shown they can compete without their star in stretches, but extended periods without him are a different story.
For the Nuggets, this is about survival mode. It’s early, but every game matters when you’re in the Western Conference. And as much as Denver would love to have Jokic back, his long-term well-being remain the top priority.
