Bronny James is the most famous son of NBA player today, and that has more to do with the fact LeBron James is his dad.
Bronny, after all, is clearly talented in his own right.
So it’s no surprise that Bronny is being heavily recruited as he enters his senior year at Sierra Canyon (Calif.) High School — with the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, UCLA and USC among those being mentioned as possibilities.
But according to Jamie Shaw of On3.com, it is actually Oregon that is considered the frontrunner to land Bronny.
Why Oregon? Well, it actually makes sense.
“There are many ties between the James family and Oregon,” Shaw wrote. “The connections mostly center around Nike. Oregon is the flagship school for the Nike brand. LeBron James and Nike have done business together with SpringHill Company. And LeBron has signed a lifetime contract with Nike as an apparel brand.”
Multiple draft websites and scouting services have Bronny ranked as anywhere from the No. 41-47 overall prospect in the class of 2023.
NBA scouts have told Hoops Wire that he is a projected second-round pick — though that could change (for better or worse) between now and when he’s eligible for the NBA Draft (2024).
LeBron has said he hopes to finish his career with whichever NBA team drafts Bronny. As we relayed last week, Bronny is looking to play in college, as opposed to the G League, immediately after high school.
“Sources have said that James reached out to a group of schools around Peach Jam to express interest in each program. Oregon, USC and Ohio State were among the schools,” Shaw wrote.
