Pacers Waive Dakota Mathias, Now Have 19 Under Contract

The Indiana Pacers have waived shooting guard Dakota Mathias after signing him to an Exhibit 10 contract earlier this week, the team announced in a press release.Dakota Mathias, NBA, Pacers, Sixers, 76ers

The move was to be expected, with Mathias likely headed for the Indiana Mad Ants of the G League.

Mathias, 29, is 6-foot-4 and went undrafted out of Purdue in 2018. He appeared in eight games with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2020-21, followed by six games with the Memphis Grizzlies a year later.

He has also spent time professionally in Spain, Germany and the G League. Along with that, he played for the Pacers in the NBA Summer League in July, averaging 6.6 points and 1.2 rebounds.

An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.

This move coincides with the Pacers officially waiving guard Kyle Magnus and forward Cameron McGriff, both of whom are headed to the Mad Ants.

Magnus, 25, is 6-4 and is a product of Warsaw (Ind.) High School and Indiana Wesleyan University. He went undrafted in 2021 and played for the Mad Ants last season after a couple years overseas.

He then spent July with the Los Angeles Lakers summer team in Las Vegas.

McGriff, 26, is 6-7 and went undrafted out of Oklahoma State in 2020. He has bounced around between overseas and the G League, appearing in three games with the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2021-22 season and averaging 4.7 points and 5.0 rebounds.

Indiana now has 19 players under contract, with 12 of those on fully guaranteed deals.
