Pacers guard Edmond Sumner has suffered a torn left Achilles and is out indefinitely, the team announced in a press release.
Sumner, 25, is 6-foot-4 and suffered the injury during an offseason workout Thursday.
This is a bit of a blow for both Sumner and the Pacers, as he is coming off a career season, offering underrated play off the bench. In 53 games, Sumner averaged a career-high 7.5 points on 58 percent shooting.
“Since Sumner is in the final year of his contract, the Pacers may eventually waive him if they don’t think he’ll be back this season and need his spot on the 15-man roster, but there’s no rush to make a move yet,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors, via Yardbarker. “Sumner’s $2.32M salary is guaranteed, so he’ll earn it whether or not he finishes the season with the club.”
This news follows an updated earlier in the week on small forward T.J. Warren. The Pacers announced that Warren is also out indefinitely, as the “stress fracture in his left foot is healing during the rehabilitation process; but not at the pace previously anticipated.”
