Pacers Signing Tristen Newton To Two-Way Deal

The Indiana Pacers are signing second-round pick Tristen Newton to a two-way contract, per Scott Agness of FieldHouse Files.Tristan Newton, Pacers, NBA

Netwon is a 6-foot-5 guard out of UConn and was selected with the No. 49 overall pick. He was one of four UConn players taken in this year’s draft.

Netwon, 23, appeared in five Las Vegas Summer League games with the Pacers, compiling averages of 9.0 points, 4.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals. He is now one of two two-way players for the Pacers, joining point guard Quenton Jackson. Indiana still has a two-way deal available.

Newton, of course, is coming off back-to-back NCAA titles with the Huskies and is joining a Pacers squad that reached the Eastern Conference finals. The Pacers were swept by the eventual-champion Boston Celtics.

Along with Newton, the Pacers selected Spanish point guard Juan Nunez (No. 36) and ex-Akron forward Enrique Freeman (No. 50) in the draft.

Newton averaged 15.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists last season with UConn.

In other news out of Indiana, in case you missed it, the Pacers last month signed center James Wiseman to add depth to the frontcourt. Wiseman was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and reportedly received a two-year deal.

Last season with the Detroit Pistons, Wiseman averaged 7.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 63 games, shooting 61.3% from the field and 70.6% on free throws. He carries NBA career averages of 9.1 points and 5.6 boards.
