Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton started a little bit of a social media firestorm when he said that some members of Team USA could team up in the NBA.
Basically, Haliburton made it sound as if there was some recruiting going on when the Americans were in Paris for the Olympics.
He clarified those remarks in an interview on The Pat McAfee Show.
“The story about me recruiting players to Indiana got blown out of proportion,” Haliburton said. “They made it seem like I was the only one doing it, but everyone was recruiting. I just play in the smallest market, so when I do it, it gets magnified. That’s fine, though. Indiana is a great market. It’s a basketball state. We’ve got a good thing going here, so if anyone wants to play with me, they’ll have to come to Indiana. I’m not going anywhere.”
Haliburton is widely known as one of the coolest cats in the NBA, someone who knows how to run the team and have a little fun along the way. He has emerged as someone in The Best Point Guard conversation and was a major reason the Pacers became a sleeper last season, advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals.
So the fact he said he intends to remain in Indiana is news and something that is certain to please both the Pacers and the NBA overall. In this day and age, guys staying with their team for an entire career is admirable.
