The attorney representing former NBA guard Patrick Beverley has issued a statement to Hoops Wire, pushing back on the accusations outlined in the probable-cause affidavit related to Beverley’s recent arrest in Texas.

The following is the full statement from Letitia Quinones-Hollins, attorney for Beverley, provided to Hoops Wire:

“I understand that the affidavit contains some negative details; however, remember that it is only one side of the story — given at a time when emotions were high. As I’ve said before, we don’t believe that the description in that affidavit is accurate, nor is it complete.

“Patrick is not a violent man and was not violent that night. In fact, he was very respectful with the authorities that night and encouraged others to do the same. He is the provider and protector of his family, including his little sister and his mom. He has always looked out for their well-being and will continue to do so.

“I have every expectation that when all the facts are in, Patrick will be cleared of these charges. Until then, I can only ask that everyone keep an open mind and not rush to judgment.

“Please remember this is America and in our society, Patrick is innocent unless proven otherwise in a court of law.”

Beverley, 36, was arrested earlier this month in Fort Bend County on a felony assault charge. Police documents obtained by TMZ Sports allege Beverley choked and struck his sister during an incident on Nov. 14 after she returned home from meeting her boyfriend without permission.

According to the affidavit, Beverley allegedly grabbed his sister by the neck, lifted her off the ground and slammed her into walls while pulling her from a bedroom.

Police said they observed marks on her neck and petechiae in her eyes consistent with strangulation.

She also told officers that Beverley punched her in the left eye and made a threatening remark during the altercation.

Authorities say the sister’s boyfriend called 911 after being told to leave the home.

Beverley addressed the situation briefly on social media, writing, “Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv.”

Beverley last played in the NBA during the 2023-24 season.
