The Pelicans have made third-year center Jaxson Hayes available in trade talks as they remain hopeful for a Zion Williamson return, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
While small forward Brandon Ingram is the Pelicans’ most attractive trade possibility, he has not been made available, Fischer added during his appearance on the HoopsHype podcast.
“The Pelicans are going to be buyers as long as they have the realistic chance that Zion Williamson can come back healthy and soon,” Fischer said. “Jaxson Hayes is a name I’ve heard that they’re making available there.”
Hayes, 21, is 6-foot-11 and is averaging career-lows of 5.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 11.7 minutes in 20 games this season, serving as Jonas Valanciunas‘ backup in the pivot.
While Hayes isn’t likely to bring much in return, he theoretically could be part of a larger package. The Pelicans are among the many teams that supposedly have expressed interest in available 76ers star guard/forward Ben Simmons.
