It appears Pelicans head of basketball operations David Griffin is looking to make another splashy move, something he’s been known to do over the years.
Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Pelicans are pursuing a trade for a top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, with their sights set on the Nos. 2 or 3 overall selections.
Specifically, the Pelicans are targeting G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson — who is either expected to be selected No. 2 by the Hornets, behind French center Victor Wembanyama (Spurs), or No. 3 overall by the Trail Blazers, behind Wembanyama and Alabama forward Brandon Miller.
“Henderson and Alabama’s Brandon Miller are vying to go No. 2 to the Charlotte Hornets,” Charania said during a spot for Stadium. “Expect the Hornets to further solidify their draft board as this week closes. But the Pelicans are among the teams seriously pursuing that No. 2 overall pick.”
The NBA Draft is scheduled for Thursday, June 22.
