The Pelicans have signed second-round pick Herb Jones, the team announced in a press release.
Jones, 22, is a 6-foot-8 small forward and was selected out of Alabama with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Per Will Guillory of The Athletic, Jones received a three-year contract, with the third year being a team option.
Last season as a senior with the Crimson Tide, Jones averaged he averaged 11.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 33 games. He has fared well as a member of the Pelicans’ summer team in Las Vegas.
“While the exact terms of Jones’ new deal aren’t yet known, two guaranteed years has been the standard for players drafted in his range,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “The Pelicans will use a small portion of their mid-level exception to complete the signing, so they could go a little higher than the rookie minimum if they so choose.”
