The Pelicans intend to work out free agent guard/forward Will Barton ahead of training camp, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Barton, 32, is 6-6 and appeared in 52 games combined with the Wizards and Raptors last season, compiling averages of 6.8 points and 37 percent shooting on 3-pointers. He has played everything from point guard to small forward during his career.
Barton was acquired by the Wizards before last season in a trade with the Nuggets that also involved guard Monte Morris. With Washington, Barton averaged 7.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 40 games –his lowest in each statistical category since the 2014-15 season.
Originally selected with the No. 40 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, he spent the first three seasons of his career with the Trail Blazers.
Along with the Pelicans, Scotto reported that Barton is among those expected to audition for the Warriors, joining forward Stanley Johnson and others.
The Pelicans may be looking to add help at the wing positions following the knee injury to Trey Murphy III, who underwent meniscus surgery. He is expected to miss at least 10 weeks.
