The New Orleans Pelicans have officially claimed center Trey Jemison off waivers, according to the RealGM transactions log.
Jemison, 24, is 6-foot-11 and was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies three days ago, hitting the waiver wire. He will be on a two-way contract with the Pelicans.
In 25 appearances with Memphis and the Washington Wizards last season, he averaged 6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds, shooting 55.1% from the field.
Jemison initially signed a two-way deal with the Pelicans last fall after going undrafted out of UAB, but was waived before the season. He then signed a 10-day contract with the Wizards in January, followed by a 10-day deal with the Grizzlies. Memphis signed him to a two-way deal less than a month later.
He was waived a few days ago to make room on the roster for center Jay Huff, also signed to a two-way deal.
New Orleans is looking for help up front after losing starting center Jonas Valanciunas to the Wizards in free agency, as well as trading power forward Larry Nance Jr. to the Atlanta Hawks as part of the deal for guard Dejounte Murray.’
The Pelicans have also signed free agent big men Daniel Theis and Karlo Matkovic, as well as drafted center Yves Missi.
Jamison joins guard/forward Malcolm Hill and power forward Jamal Cain as Pelicans players on two-way deals. That puts New Orleans at the NBA limit.
