Pelicans coach Willie Green says he talks with head of basketball operations Joe Dumars every day, and that the entire front office knows where they stand as the losses pile up.
“We’re all frustrated, want to be better,” Green told reporters. “We’re all a part of making sure that we do everything we can to be better.”
That’s the right message. But at 0-6, messages only buy so much time.
New Orleans has already lost three games by 30 or more. They were blasted by 31 in Oklahoma City, and they’re now one of two winless teams in the league.
And the bigger issue may be how they’ve looked. Per Marc Stein of the Stein Line, there are real internal concerns about whether there is enough shooting or playmaking here to even make a run at the play-in.
Pelicans owner Gayle Benson is said to be a believer in Green. There were even whispers she pushed to keep him when Dumars took over. But patience has limits.
The Pelicans burned an unprotected 2026 first to draft Derik Queen, and they blocked James Borrego from interviewing with the Knicks this summer. They wanted him available if a coaching change became necessary.
It feels early. But the temperature keeps rising.
