Pelicans power forward Zion Williamson has been returned to resume on-court activities and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the team said in a press release.
Williamson was originally expected to miss no more than three weeks with a right hamstring strain. But that announcement was made back on Jan. 3. He suffered a setback since then, head of basketball operations David Griffin said.
“I think we’re looking at multiple weeks past the All-Star break that he’ll be back,” Griffin said in late February, via Andrew Lopez of ESPN.
Should Williamson be cleared to resume playing, he will join a Pelicans team that is currently fighting for a spot in the playoffs or play-in tournament. They are currently tied with the Lakers for the 11th seed in the Western Conference.
Williamson, 22, is averaging 26.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, shooting 61 percent from the field, in 29 games.
Two weeks would be April 5.
A return to on-court activities is positive, but Pelicans end the regular season on April 9 against Minnesota. https://t.co/JAozEGfMb2
