It’s been a record-setting season for the Detroit Pistons. Just not the type of record anybody wants.
So the Pistons will likely try to start over, or something close to it, and this season. They have until the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
They have lost 26 in a row, tying the Cavaliers and 76ers for the record in a single season. But for now, it does not appear they are ready to part ways with general manager Troy Weaver, according to Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press.
Instead, they appear to be more focused on the roster and building around guard Cade Cunningham. And if you look at the roster and the results, Cunningham is the only player the Pistons would absolutely, positively want to keep.
As Sankofa relayed, the Pistons seem to believe they can “make a splash” before the trade deadline. They view it as “the next logical step” when it comes to trying to fix this mess.
“I am expecting change,” team owner Tom Gores told reporters. “I do expect Troy to come up with change. Because staying exactly the same, I don’t think anyone can be here and say that in any genuine way that change is not required. I expect Troy to find ways to (make) us more successful. I do expect him to find ways, and he knows that. And if we did nothing to improve ourselves, I’m going to be disappointed. I’m going to be disappointed. And I think Troy knows that.”
Yeah, we all know it.
