The Pistons are expected to be among the teams that pursue Grizzlies free agent forward Dillon Brooks, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
As we relayed here, Brooks has already been told that the Grizzlies do not intend to bring him back. But he will certainly have no shortage of possible suitors and has already been linked to the Heat. (Full post.)
As for the Pistons, Stein wrote “Detroit has been mentioned to me more than once as a team to watch in terms of potential suitors for unrestricted free agent-to-be Dillon Brooks.”
While Brooks struggled as a perimeter shooter, his defense from the wing is considered to be among the most intense in the NBA. Clearly, the Pistons could use more of that, and they also will have the salary flexibility to add a free agent or two.
But much of what they do next is likely contingent on how they fare in the May 16 draft lottery. Along with that, they are still looking to hire a coach after Dwane Casey moved into the team’s front office under GM Troy Weaver.
