The Detroit Pistons have officially signed shooting guard Malik Beasley to a contract, per the NBA transactions log. The deal is reportedly for one year.
Beasley, 27, is 6-foot-4 and spent one season with the Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 11.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists, shooting 44.3% from the field, 41.3% on 3-pointers and 71.4% on free throws this past season. He appeared in all but three of the 82 regular-season games, starting 77 of them.
Overall, he has appeared in at least 79 games in each of the past three seasons.
Beasley has also spent time with the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers in his eight NBA seasons.
Detroit, of course, finished with the NBA’s worst record (14-68) and set the single-season NBA mark for consecutive losses at 28. But the Pistons have made some changes since the end of last season, adding veterans under new head of basketball operations Trajan Langdon.
That included changing coaches from Monty Williams to J.B. Bickerstaff, as well as landing veteran players such as forward Tobias Harris, wing Tim Hardaway Jr., big man Paul Reed and Beasley.
Per Keith Smith of Spotrac: “Malik Beasley’s signing went official for the Detroit Pistons today. If it comes in at exactly $6M (the reported amount), that will leave the Pistons with about $13.9M in cap space, the Room Exception and Simone Fontecchio‘s cap hold.”
Like all NBA teams, the Pistons begin play in the NBA Las Vegas summer league this weekend.
