The Pistons have signed point guard Zavier Simpson to an Exhibit 10 training camp contract, per the RealGM transactions log, via Hoops Rumors.
Simpson, 26, is 6-foot-0 and played at Michigan from 2016-20. A former Ohio Mr. Basketball, he has appeared in four NBA games — all with the Thunder during the 2021-22 season.
Most of his time as a pro has been spent in the G League, with both the Oklahoma City Blue and Lakeland Magic. With Lakeland, he was named to the G League’s inaugural Next Up Game
Simpson signed with Puerto Rican club Grises de Humacao on April 3 but was released several weeks later. He then played for the Pistons in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
The Motor City Cruise of the G League recently announced that they have acquired Simpson’s returning player rights from the Osceola Magic, Orlando’s new affiliate. Motor City is the Pistons’ affiliate. In exchange, Motor City sent the returning rights to power forward Reggie Perry and forward/center Devontae Cacok back to the Magic.
An Exhibit 10 contract counts toward the training camp roster of 21, but not the regular-season roster unless the player is signed to a standard deal.
