The Pistons have signed small forward Chris Smith to a two-way contract, according to the NBA’s official transactions log, via Hoops Rumors.
Smith is 6-foot-9 and went undrafted out of UCLA. He appeared in just eight games last season after tearing his ACL, averaging 12.6 points and 6.4 rebounds in the games in which he did appear.
Smith joins former Iowa center Luke Garza as the Pistons’ two two-way players. (You can read the full Garza post here.)
Two-way players can appear in up to 50 NBA games, spending the rest of their time in the G League.
Smith is one of several rookies earning a shot for a spot on Detroit’s roster. Along with selecting Cade Cunningham at No. 1 overall, they took Michigan forward Isaiah Livers, Garza and Florida State center Balsa Koprivica in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft.
