The Pistons are signing point guard Keifer Sykes to an Exhibit 10 training camp contract, waiving center Micah Potter in the process, per Keith Smith of Spotrac.
Sykes, 28, is 6-foot-0 and appeared in 32 games with the Pacers last season, his first in the NBA, averaging 5.6 points. He first signed with the Spurs in September 2015, but was waived less than a month later.
He initially signed with the Pacers in August of last year, then waived before the season. He was brought back in December, then waived again in April.
Potter, 24, is 6-foot-10 and made his NBA debut on the first day of the year after signing a 10-day contract with the Pistons. He appeared in three games last season after being named an All-G League first-teamer.
A native of Mentor, Ohio, his college career started at Ohio State before transferring to Wisconsin. He signed with the Heat before last season, was waived shortly thereafter, and spent most of the year with the G League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce.
In 33 G League games, Potter averaged 17.2 points and 9.8 rebounds. He played for the Knicks in summer league following the season.
Exhibit 10 contracts count toward a team’s offseason roster limit of 20, but not toward the regular roster unless the player receives a standard deal.
James L. Edwards III of The Athletic first reported that Sykes would sign with the Pistons.
